According to the last Australian Census, one in seven people are working within the health care and social assistance industries. These two industries are the biggest areas of employment across all states. With the healthcare and social sector now accounting for 15% of the Australian workforce, it highlights the significant opportunities this sector presents to anyone wanting to enter it.
Within its many diverse services, Yarraville Community Centre is also a registered training organisation, offering Nationally Accredited courses within the community services, education, and care sectors. These subsidised VET courses are open to all eligible Australian residents. Amongst the occupations that have experienced rapid growth include Aged and Disability Carers, which has increased by 72%. Of these employees, more than half held a qualification level of a Cert III in Aged Care. YCC offers a Cert III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability), as well as a Certificate IV in Disability Support that can provide pathways into these highly in-demand industries. It’s not only an opportunity for new career possibilities, but also anyone looking to upskill.
These vocational education courses offered at YCC are complemented by the comprehensive numeracy, literacy and digital training courses offered under the ACFE framework (Adult Community and Further Education). These ACFE courses range from improving literacy, numeracy, learning how to use your digital device or recharging your knowledge in these areas. These courses are also free and open to all eligible Australian residents.
This combination of offering VET nationally recognised courses, along with foundational education like literacy and numeracy, really makes YCC a rich centre for learning opportunities and gateways for employment. If you would like to know more information about any of these courses please contact our Education Manager, Melissa Giffard. Intakes for vocational courses are twice a year.
