For the fifth year running, Victoria University students – tomorrow’s engineers, builders, and designers of mega projects – have accelerated their careers through an internship with Transurban.
Transurban and Victoria University have partnered since 2019 to offer engineering students a hands-on, all-in approach to engineering.
This year, Transurban’s West Gate Tunnel Project team proudly welcomed four interns into the fold, with experienced engineers providing invaluable mentoring, and the project giving the interns the rare opportunity to apply their studies to one of Australia’s largest construction projects.
Victoria University engineering intern Kim Anh Truong said she had found the opportunity to apply her studies to the West Gate Tunnel Project a rewarding experience.
“Being at Transurban and being involved in a project of this magnitude has been special,” Kim said.
“At university I’ve learnt a lot, but it’s only a fraction of what you need when you are on a job like this. At Transurban, I’ve been able to see what I’ve been studying for years come together and transform into real world changes.”
Kristia Delfin said her internship had assured her engineering was a safe and diverse field.
“I was initially too intimidated to go into such a male dominated field, so I became a nurse, Kristia said.
“Eventually I thought ‘I’m not going to die if I try this’, so I applied to join VU.
“Of course, there are a lot of men in engineering, but the project is also full of women in engineering and all kinds of roles. I have felt Transurban has been really welcoming.”
