    EDITOR’S NOTE

    Date:

Here in the western suburbs we know that community is built from the heart, and volunteers have the biggest hearts of all! They are the lifeblood of many organisations which, without the help of volunteers, simply couldn’t continue doing good work.

May the 15th marks the start of National Volunteer Week so in this edition we celebrate the contribution that volunteers have made to westside life. Hopefully we’ll inspire more westies to get involved in some of the many volunteer and community activities.

Not only does volunteering benefit others, but it improves your life too! Volunteering expands our friendship circle, teaches us new skills, makes us feel happier and healthier, and builds community, and in tough times it’s community that we turn to for help. So what are you waiting for? Get reading, and get volunteering!

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
