DONATE TODAY AND DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT

    Date:

Right now things are tough and many people are struggling. West Welcome Wagon supports asylum seekers and refugees living in Melbourne’s west through the provision of good quality donations, food relief, educational supplies and community engagement.

The demand for these services has more than doubled during this pandemic. Asylum seekers and refugees need our help now more than ever.

At West Welcome Wagon the power of giving has become a little bit stronger. Thanks to an anonymous donor, every donation received until 31 July 2020 will be matched dollar for dollar (or until the goal of $25,000 is reached – whichever comes first).

The warehouses used by this local grassroots charity are the transit points that enable volunteers to sort, repair and store donations before delivering them to the clients’ front doors. During this campaign your heartfelt donation will have twice the impact in making sure the two warehouses stay open.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
