HECS-Help Debt relief for everyone
The Albanese Government has recently made major announcements in the education space that will benefit the almost 20% of Fraser residents with a HECS debt. A re-elected Labor government will be cutting student debt by 20% for everyone. We’ll raise the threshold people can earn before they need to start repaying their loans. These changes, on top of already-legislated changes to the way HECS is indexed, will help immediately with cost of living and, by reducing debt, will enable more home loan applications.
Fundraising from the Vietnamese Community
The Vietnamese Community in Australia – Vic Chapter, along with Quang Minh Temple have organised fundraising for the new Footscray Hospital. Their efforts have raised over $500,000! They will give the final amount raised to the hospital in February next year as the community begins to celebrate 50 years of settlement in Australia.
A decade of Sons of the West
The Western Bulldogs Community Program is an institution in my electorate and across Melbourne’s west. It was terrific to attend the 10 year celebration of the Sons of the West Program, an outstanding initiative that does so much to promote health, education and employment opportunities. Over 5,000 people have completed the program. Well done to the foundation for an incredibly impactful decade.

Better prepared for the swimming season
Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre was awarded a grant to deliver a swimming program for women from a multicultural background. Swimming skills and life saving techniques must be developed to ensure the safety of people around water. Participants in Maribyrnong’s program learn these skills in a culturally safe environment. It was great to show off the facilities to Minister for Sport, Anika Wells MP and meet staff and participants.
