ASRC TELETHON ON WORLD REFUGEE DAY

    Date:

The ASRC Telethon on World Refugee Day will return this year on Saturday, 20 June to celebrate the strength and resilience of refugees. As an essential service in the pandemic, the ASRC’s doors remain open to help support people seeking asylum and we will continue to stand in solidarity with refugees on World Refugee Day.

Join the ASRC on the day (online) to help raise vital funds that support and empower people who are rebuilding their lives here.

When you stand in solidarity with refugees at the ASRC Telethon on World Refugee Day, you are helping to create a more welcoming and inclusive Australia for people seeking asylum.

Last year, 9,000+ donors, artists, musicians, and activists stood united to raise $1.1 million to support people who are rebuilding their lives here.

Want to get involved on the day?

The ASRC are looking for people with profiles, businesses with bravery and people with a lived experience of seeking asylum to share their stories or support our auction and be a part of this magical day.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
