GOOGLE TRANSLATE TO INCLUDE ‘SARCASM’ AS A LANGUAGE

    Date:

Just when you thought the various Google services couldn’t push the limits any further, well, they have.

In an era when you can tour the world’s museums via Google Cultural Institute, map out the fastest route from point A to point B via Google Maps, and check if there’s any parking at point B via Google Streets, the mega corporation’s popular ‘translate’ service will now interpret from English to ‘Sarcasm’

Although a release date has not been announced, the service is expected to be up and running by late April 2016.

According to Google; “We see this as an opportunity to potentially help those confused by the subtle nuances of the English language, but also perhaps bridge a cultural and linguistic divide between English speaking countries, providing particular assistance to U.S. residents when communicating with people from England, Australia and New Zealand”.

We can’t wait to try it out, though making fun of Americans may be slightly harder from now on!

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
