The latest instalment in the Star Wars live action series is Ahsoka, but who is she? If you’ve never watched the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, and your first time seeing her in live action was in the second season of The Mandalorian you’d be understandably confused. Her origin is that she was Anakin Skywalker’s padawan in the era of the Clone Wars who, after the reign of Darth Vader, became a nomad. The series really started to take shape once an Australian graphic artist named Bosslogic created pieces of fanart of the character, fancasting actress Rosario Dawson, who actually landed the role. But how did she and the show perform?
Ahsoka… is pretty rough. Some scenes look fantastical and amazing, filled with colour and life but then the next scene is just grey and bland, which mirrors the overall performance. There are some exciting action scenes and great lightsaber duels but the general plot of the series is a little mixed up and stale. If you haven’t seen Star Wars: Rebels (the sequel to SW:CW), many plot elements and characters may make you feel a little lost.
Rosario Dawson’s performance as Ahsoka in her short cameos in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett left many excited to see her portrayal of the fan favourite character. However, I just feel like she drained and dragged out the scenes too much. Props and respect to the late Ray Stevenson though, who passed away in May this year. His performance in the series is fantastic.
Overall Ahsoka is pretty average. Some cool scenes here and there but if you are just watching the Star Wars films and avoiding the Disney+ series then you aren’t missing out on anything too exciting..
