The Melbourne Open Water Swimming Club at Williamstown Beach launched late last year, is dedicated to supporting people to swim safely in the open water, in accordance with Life Saving Victoria guidelines.
Equipment, resources, classes and coaching are provided to support everyone – pool swimmers, members of swimming clubs, the general public, learners, the non-competitive swimmers. On Saturday mornings, people trained in first aid are on rescue boards to keep an eye on swimmers and the conditions around them.
The club also works with other organisations and swim clubs to provide open water swimming opportunities for squads and teams.
“We are thrilled that the club has just hit 100 paid up members after 6 months of being active. There has been a fast uptake of memberships due to the increased popularity of open water swimming and people looking for a Covid safe activity to participate in,” said Club President Jason Bryce.
Summer and winter memberships include swim groups, classes and lessons, and member discounts. Plus exclusive access to club events, equipment, gear, merch and apparel. Memberships are $20 per season.

Williamstown Point to Point Open Water Swim Championship
This Williamstown Point to Point Open Water Swim Championship Event is from the Crystal Point Steps across to Point Johnson and back to Williamstown Beach. The Championship is on Labour Day, Monday 14th March 2022 starting at 10am.
Every swimmer (with the swim event organisers) estimates a finish time and is then given a start time. A support team on boards and kayaks will be in the water during the race.
Swim the full 1000m course or cut the corner and swim 700m. The race is handicapped and the slowest swimmers start first so any competitor has the chance to be crowned 2022 Williamstown Point to Point champion.
Plus there are plenty of raffle prizes to be won. Limited entry tickets are $25 non members/$15 members. Meet at the western end of the beach, near the rockwall and the carpark behind WSLSC by 9:30am. For more info and to register go to: www.melbourneopenwaterswimmingclub.org
