The Western Bulldogs’ Nallei-Jerring (join and unite) Koori Youth Leadership Project inspires, educates and encourages Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander young people to become future leaders in the West Metro Aboriginal community.
The project offers practical and theory-based activities designed to enhance young people with cultural knowledge, leadership, teamwork, resilience, communication, support networks and connection to community.
Offering a broad range of activities, the Western Bulldogs’ Nallei-Jerring Koori Youth Leadership Project is designed to meet the various needs of the group including cultural excursions, practical team building activities, leadership from respected Aboriginal Elders and community members.
Recognising the contribution of a group member who has best personified the programs values of leadership, respect, teamwork and encouragement, the You Inspire Me Award is a peer voted award that forms part of the project. In 2019, 18-year-old Jorja Miller was the recipient of the You Inspire Me Award, an inspiring young female who demonstrates a strong will to overcome anything that life throws at her, having become a double amputee.
The Nallei Jerring Koori Youth Leadership Project commences late August and is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander males and females aged between 13-15 years who live within the local government areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.
Self-motivated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander young people with the potential to become future leaders in their community are encouraged to apply.
The program caters for up to 25 young people from the local Aboriginal community who will meet regularly online to develop skills and behaviours that will deliver lifelong benefits to the young person and their community.
