Firstly, if you’re in self-isolation then kudos to you, I’m doing it too. Now this is the perfect series to fill your free time.
This popped out of nowhere, I was flicking through NETFLIX and under suggestions this gem was just sitting there waiting for me. I Am Not Okay With This is about a young girl named Sydney whose father has since committed suicide and this has its effects on the 17-year-old. Her time at high school is a bit hard because she feels like she just doesn’t fit in, she has her two friends, but she still struggles. But then slowly but surely, she discovers she has telekinetic powers. Jonathan Entwistle who may be familiar as he also directs The End Of The F***ing World has done an amazing job with this series. It is a truly modern take on the coming of age theme, but has a supernatural twist. I would compare it to a mix of Stranger Things and The Breakfast Club. Not bad when you consider that they are both fantastic films. Another aspect is the focus on the themes of mental health and some of the struggles one goes through during high school. It is ahead of its game in terms of the themes its targeting. This is the series to watch, its on NETFLIX and I do apologise if you do not have access to it. So I promise for next month I will review something on STAN for another set of audience members to watch. To really summarise this series, I will say it’s simply perfect.
