YARRAVILLE SEA EAGLES HOST JUNIOR STATE OF ORIGIN RIVALS FROM WA

The combined Under-10 and Under-12 Yarraville Seddon Eagles team hosted an exhibition match against Claremont Football Club from Western Australia earlier in the year.

The Western Australian players and their families were visiting Melbourne for the Queen’s Birthday weekend and were very keen to test their skills against the Vics. While in Melbourne, they also took in three AFL matches including watching their local heroes the Fremantle Dockers.

The 9am start must have been a shock to the body clocks of the Claremont players, however the Melbourne weather turned on a stunning Winter morning which would have gone some way to making the visitors feel at home. The game was played over six, twelve-minute quarters which at first challenged the young minds of the players however once the coaches explained that only in footy can there be six quarters both teams took to the field and played the game in great spirits and did their states proud.

WA took home the bragging rights but there was plenty of talk afterwards whilst families and players from both teams mingled and enjoyed a sausage sizzle of a the chance for the Vics to make amends next year in Perth.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
