Sonnet – October 26

Date:

This month’s sonnet is a reimagining of an Academy Award winning song from a movie adored by little girls worldwide. The theme of the lyrics is the importance of showing the world who you really are, rather than repressing the parts of yourself that might upset other people.

It grieves me not at all

Upon the mountaintop the snow glows white
And on it not a footprint can be seen
An isolated kingdom of the night,
An icy realm, and one where I am queen.

The brutal wind that howleth on the peak
An echo of the tempest in my soul
that has so long been told it may not speak
that I must still my voice and keep control.

But I shall not be guarded any more.
My voice is loud, and now it shall be heard
On disapproving words I slam the door
I ride the storm to freedom, like a bird.

And from the sky my bygone fears are small,
And as for cold, it grieves me not at all.
