Sonnet – May 26

Date:

A carnal field

On subjects that engage thee I have dwelt;
Our conversation floweth like a stream.
I’ve handled thee adroitly. I have dealt
the cards in ways I hope avail my scheme.

We’ve supped, and gone to see a bawdy play,
And now our minds and bodies have been fed;
The congress that remains to us today
Should happen horizontally, in bed.

So let us now be carnal, let me hear
Thy body in a dialogue with mine.
Though virtuous and patient I appear,
The beast is waking now, and wants to dine.

Let’s leave cerebral fare behind, for now,
And find ourselves a carnal field to plough.

The song is ‘Let’s Get Physical’, by Olivia Newton-John.
