    GIVE SECOND CHANCES. GIVE BLOOD.

    Date:

By Jennifer Cook – Director Western Health Collective

Feelings of helplessness can lead us down a path of anxiety and stress. One way to help yourself is to find something that can directly help others.

Here is one of our tips – donate blood! Seriously. We support all those babies, children, teenagers, and adults in our hospitals, needing blood regularly not due to Covid but due to the huge number of other diseases that are affecting them. From brain cancer, leukaemia, autoimmune conditions, road accidents and premature births, blood donations keep our hospitals able to do the lifesaving work that we depend on.

Did you know we need 29,000 donations weekly to keep up with demand?

Did you know each blood donation can save 3 lives?

Something to note though first. Are you eligible?

If you are 18-76 years of age, and over 50kg you may be eligible.

If you want to check your eligibility you can go straight to www.lifeblood.com.au/faq/eligibility

Doing something to immediately impact the health and survival of others in our community is definitely a direct action against those helpless and hopeless feelings.

Check out www.lifeblood.com.au to see where you can go to donate and learn more.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
