Yarraville Community Centre has partnered with Good Things Foundation Australia to deliver Digital Sisters, a new free digital inclusion program for refugee and migrant women aged 18 to 50. The program aims to empower women to build digital skills, confidence, and connections in the Australian community.
For those already tech savvy, it can be a challenge to keep abreast of the rapidly changing world of technology. However, for the 1 in 4 Australians which are digitally excluded, it means they either don’t have the digital confidence, basic skills, or access to devices to navigate the modern world.
The modern world of technology will keep evolving, and vital programs like Digital Sisters help marginalised communities such as refugee and migrant women from being further impacted by exclusion.
The program is led by female digital mentors in a 1:1 learning environment at Yarraville Community Centre and is free of charge to all refugee and migrant women aged 18-50.
The program covers a range of topics such as basic computer operation, email account set up, banking, resume creation and how to apply for a job online. Being able to learn at your own pace in a culturally appropriately environment, equips women to access educational resources, social services, healthcare information and employment opportunities.
In response to the success and profound impact Digital Sisters has had, Good Things Foundation Australia is leading a new additional program in partnership with Telstra and Microsoft, called Digital Sisters: AI for Good. Artificial Intelligence has revolutionised the way we work, learn and interact. This new program will explore how AI can improve the lives and skills of migrant women, enabling them to participate in their communities without feeling vulnerable and ultimately paving the way for greater opportunities.
If you know a friend or someone that would benefit from this program, YCC encourages you to help them to enrol. Get in touch with Yarraville Community Centre on 9687 1560.
