    Future Footscray: a bright future

Initiated by Footscray state member, Katie Hall MP, we recently had our first Steering Group meeting in which a range of stakeholders came together to collaborate on ‘Future Footscray’. With all three levels of government, key businesses and residents working together, we will be best placed to achieve our shared objectives for Footscray’s bright future. You can follow updates on Future Footscray on Katie’s website.

Medicare Urgent Care Clinic: more bulkbilling in the West

The Albanese Labor government has delivered a Medicare urgent care clinic in Maribyrnong to give better access to high-quality, free, bulked-billed healthcare services. The Maribyrnong clinic will help reduce the number of people attending hospital emergency departments for urgent-but-not-life-threatening conditions such as sprains and infections.

Over one third of the presentations at Footscray Hospital’s emergency department have been for non-urgent and semi-urgent issues, being highly inconvenient for individuals but also poor utilisation for our hospital resources. The clinic is located G01B/31 Edgewater Blvd, Maribyrnong, and open from 8am – 10pm.

Sunshine Heights Primary School: Upgrading local schools’ investment in the West

I visited Sunshine Heights Primary School with Laverton state member, Sarah Connolly MP to announce a project supported by the Albanese Government’s Schools Upgrade Fund.

The Albanese Government’s Schools Upgrade Fund will deliver more than $48 million in vital infrastructure projects for Victorian public schools. Sunshine Heights Primary School received $500,000 for a refurbishment of the school’s toilet block which is a long overdue project.

    Cyber Security Forum: educating seniors

Minister Clare O’Neil, then minister for Cyber Security, joined me at St Albans Community Centre to host a seniors cyber security forum.

Many of the 150 attendees were well acquainted with cyber risks but there is always a need to learn more! I recommended that people visit the Australian Cyber Security Centre website and the Scamwatch website to learn more and report cyber crimes and scams.

North Cyprus Community Centre of Victoria: a multicultural success story

Thanks to assistance from the state government, the North Cyprus Community Centre of Victoria recently completed a renovation of their community centre and it was officially reopened this month.

The new community centre is a modern and beautifully designed building that has been years in the making. Well done to all the incredibly hardworking committee and the many volunteers who dedicated their time to ensuring the centre was delivered on time. Great to be there with long time supporter of the community, Natalie Suleyman MP, as well as Minister Ingrid Stitt and Sarah Connolly MP.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
