Glasgow has gifted many things to Melbourne, some musical and some culinary. Most famous exports are the Young brothers from AC/DC, but the latest offering brings the best of Scottish cuisine to our doorsteps in the form of food truck Kilted Haggis.
The dynamic duo behind Kilted Haggis, Colin and Elisabeth Paterson love a chat and laugh with their customers and it won’t take you long to recognise the distinctly Scottish lilt and quirky sense of humour.
Both from Glasgow, they credit their family background for their love of good food. Colin’s parents owned a fishmonger and Elisabeth’s parents a butcher shop.
Sharing a love of food, heritage and community, they first ventured into food trucks in 2018 to serve hot food to local soccer teams. While it hasn’t always been smooth sailing, the business has blossomed as customers kept returning to savour more of Elisabeth’s authentic cooking and enjoy Colin’s great banter.
Their authentic produce made by Pacdon Park British Butchery includes Australia’s only award-winning haggis. Other menu items include black pudding, pork pies, scotch eggs and haggis pies.
While they proudly call Australia home, they have never forgotten their heritage and treasure the strong affiliation between Scotland and the Melbourne’s western suburbs.
“We’re a small Scottish family business who believe in the connection of food and culture within our communities. Our passion to share our culinary wares, is also our way of enabling change for less fortunate individuals and groups within the local areas,” they tell us. With big hearts and passionate about community they proudly sponsor local charities and disadvantaged groups.
In their endeavour to remain connected with their heritage, Colin became the Victorian chairman for the Scottish Business Network Australia and Elisabeth runs a business that helps connect UK businesses with Australia. So, if you want to connect local businesses with Scotland, they are your go-to people!
