    Date:

Are you a member of a political party, political group, or community advocacy group?

    Yes, the Libertarian party

What is the most important issue facing your electorate?

Certainly, as a working class area the cost of living is a very important issue

Should/how can Council support local businesses?

Council can support business by removing/lobbying the state to remove red and green tape and by lowering rates and cutting wasteful spending

Should/how can Council support local creatives and industries?

    Same as previous question

Should/how can Council help alleviate the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems?

The climate is not something that anyone let alone government has any hope of controlling, so council should refocus on services to the rate payers

Should/how can Council help alleviate cost of living and homelessness?

Council can help alleviate the cost of living by reducing their wasteful spending and reducing rates. Council can remove impediments to new homes to somewhat alleviate homelessness but housing cost and availability is something that all levels of government need to make less costly through regulations.

What should Council stop spending money on?

Public art installations for a start, it says a lot about governance when in a cost of living crisis councils flaunt rate payers money on such extravagance whilst some residents aren’t able to afford to pay their rates to stay in the municipality.

Should the public be allowed to ask live, unscripted questions of councillors during council meetings?

If the public can’t ask questions of their representatives, then who do they represent?

Can you please provide a short personal statement detailing what your priorities are if elected, and what your vision for your electorate looks like.

I will always listen to ratepayers, but I’ll also say no when I don’t agree. I’m endorsed by the Libertarian Party, but I will put ratepayers first. I’m running to cap rates and cut waste. Vote for me if you want your rates to be put to the best use for all residents and ratepayers. Lower rates. Greater transparency. Back to basics.

On your behalf we have asked every candidate who put their hand up to stand in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Wyndham the same set of questions that were formulated with the feedback of the Westsider readers.

Our thanks goes to first year RMIT Journalism students, who helped contact candidates as part of their final assessment in COMM2835, Journalism: Reporting and Writing.

A big shout out to Dr Josie Vine, a Westsider regular, who coordinated the project and Dr Sharon Smith who so graciously lent us her students and devised the activity as part of their assessment.
