Triple Reunion, One night only – The Combustion / Nude / Nudist Funk Orchestra

For one night only, three Melbourne bands reform in celebration of a 40+ year musical partnership and we can barely believe that everyone said YES! Some are travelling from interstate to be a part of this. We’re incredibly grateful and excited to invite any and all of our ‘old’ fans to witness this special event and see us perform one more time with all the incredibly talented human beings we were lucky enough to write, record, play and celebrate life with. 

The Combustion was a 6-piece original rock/pop/tribal band from the early 90’s formed by singer/percussionist Marcus Wadds and guitarist Pete Harrington. We played regularly at most Melbourne venues (when there were heaps), did festivals, etc., then in 1992 we got a publishing contract with Warner/Chappel, released our debut CD, Birth of a Fire, through Mushroom Records, bought a big bus and toured VIC, NSW, QLD and SA for a full year. If you know our name you were probably there and already know how awesome it was! The original line up of Marcus, Pete, Ben, Joe, Melisa and Christine will be performing with some special guests.

Marcus and Pete then formed a three-piece, The Nudists playing semi-acoustic grooves and improv, with a multi-year residency at the Commercial Hotel, Yarraville and many other venues around Melbourne. Our original band Nude was formed soon after with a more of a rock edge, shifting rock with trip hop grooves later. We released three CD’s and built a small but loyal following. We wrote some really great songs during this time that we’re excited to play live again.

We discovered funk and members of Nude/The Nudists evolved into a sweaty, seven-piece band we called Nudist Funk Orchestra which had an epic 13-year Sunday residency at The Espy in St Kilda and was a staple at festivals and big events from late 90’s to 2015. We played an eclectic mix of solid, brassy 70’s funk and rock, 90’s and 00’s dance and house, and a lot of improv grooves. We had just about every funky musician in Melbourne play in the band and released three live CD’s recorded at The Espy over that time. Every Sunday was an event with the crowd providing as much energy as the band. It was a thing!
