Filipino Youth Community Film Screening Event

A Film Screening event hosted by a Filipino Youth community organisation. The film ‘Sunday Beauty Queen’ (2016) follows a particular yet universal story of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Hong Kong as they navigate migrant issues such as low wages, exploitation and abuse perpetuated by the negligence of the Philippine government and the Labour Export Policy. In this dire situation, the workers participate in beauty pageants on their only day-off in order to reclaim their dignity. The event will be followed by an educational discussion on the Philippines highlighting Filipino migrant issues and concerns, as well as a fundraiser clothing sale! Come learn, share and meet the Filipino youth community in the West side of Melbourne!
