Are you a member of a political party, political group, or community advocacy group? (eg; Labor, Liberal, Greens, Socialist, My Place, Angry Victorians, Better West, environment groups, etc)

I am running as an independent candidate, committed to serving the best interests of the St Albans East Ward community without party allegiance.

What is the most important issue facing your electorate?

The most pressing issue in St Albans East Ward is improving local infrastructure, including road maintenance, neighborhood safety, and community facilities. These foundational elements are crucial for a thriving community.

Should/how can Council support local businesses?

Council can support local businesses through:

    • Streamlined permitting processes
    • Business workshops and training programs
    • Collaborative marketing initiatives
    • Advocating for reduced regulatory burdens

My experience running a local business informs my commitment to fostering a supportive environment.

Should/how can Council support local creatives and industries?

    Council can:

    • Develop community arts programs and events
    • Provide affordable spaces for creative endeavors
    • Facilitate partnerships between local businesses and creatives
    • Offer grants or sponsorships for innovative initiatives

I will prioritize community connections and cultural growth.

Should/how can Council help alleviate the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems?

    Council can:

    • Invest in green infrastructure (e.g., parks, green roofs)
    • Implement sustainable practices in council operations
    • Support local climate resilience initiatives
    • Advocate for state and federal climate action

Community well-being and environmental sustainability are intertwined.

Should/how can Council help alleviate cost of living and homelessness?

    Council can:

    • Advocate for affordable housing initiatives
    • Support local food banks and community services
    • Facilitate access to mental health services
    • Encourage community-led solutions

Addressing these issues requires collaborative effort and empathy.

What should Council stop spending money on?

    Council should reassess spending on:

    • Non-essential infrastructure projects
    • External consultants
    • Inefficient administrative processes

Redirecting funds to community programs and essential services will maximize value.

Should the public be allowed to ask live, unscripted questions of councillors during council meetings?

Absolutely, transparency and accountability require direct community engagement. I support live, unscripted questions during council meetings.

Can you please provide a short personal statement detailing what your priorities are if elected, and what your vision for your electorate looks like.

As your Councillor, my priorities are:

    • Community infrastructure development
    • Supporting local businesses and creatives
    • Environmental sustainability
    • Social inclusivity and well-being

My vision for St Albans East Ward is a vibrant, connected community with thriving local economy, rich cultural landscape, and resilient environment. I will listen, advocate, and work tirelessly for our community’s prosperity.

On your behalf we have asked every candidate who put their hand up to stand in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Wyndham the same set of questions that were formulated with the feedback of the Westsider readers.

Our thanks goes to first year RMIT Journalism students, who helped contact candidates as part of their final assessment in COMM2835, Journalism: Reporting and Writing.

A big shout out to Dr Josie Vine, a Westsider regular, who coordinated the project and Dr Sharon Smith who so graciously lent us her students and devised the activity as part of their assessment.
