African Youth Initiative kicks off in Melton

    Date:

    By Ronald Moss

It was wonderful to have been a part of the official opening of the African Youth Initiative (AYI) in Melton. Together with some members of Rotary Caroline Springs and Rotary SAFE Families we gathered to celebrate with these amazing and talented young women and men with local Steve McGhie MP and youth council members.

Catching up with them gave us insight into their Girls Chat program initiated by Abak Dhieu, and how they give back to the local community. We talked, played pool, table tennis and shared a meal and soft drinks. Congratulations AYI and looking forward to working with you all on keeping families safe, and on Melton Youth projects together.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
