As West Gate Tunnel prepares to open later this year, locals across Melbourne’s west can now look ahead to how their daily trips might change with a new online tool.
The ‘Explore Your Journey’ tool allows motorists to see how the new tunnels, freeway upgrades and ramps will shape their future routes. It includes interactive maps, short explainer videos, and soon will offer extra features for freight operators and truck drivers.
Transurban’s Group Executive for Delivery and Risk, Nicole Stoddart said the aim is to make sure everyone feels ready to use the new road safely from day one.
“As we prepare for opening the West Gate Tunnel, we want to ensure drivers are ready and prepared to use the road safely and confidently,” Ms Stoddart said.
“This tool is a simple and effective way to help motorists understand their new route options and explore their future trips.”
The West Gate Tunnel Project will provide a much-needed alternative to the West Gate Bridge, taking around 9,000 trucks off local streets and easing congestion for drivers across the western suburbs.
Executive Project Director for the West Gate Tunnel Project, Jim Waller said the team is focused on giving people plenty of information as the project nears the finish line.
“‘Explore Your Journey puts information at people’s fingertips, helping them understand how this vital project will transform their daily commute and deliver faster, safer trips across Melbourne,” Mr Waller said.
As part of helping the community get ready for the changes ahead, the project will hold a community activation at Altona Gate Shopping Centre from Friday 12 September to Sunday 21 September.
Locals in Melbourne’s inner west can try out an immersive driving simulator to experience the new routes and get information about how the road will operate, including where tolls apply, from Transurban. You’ll find the booth near the OPSM, open Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 5.30pm, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 9pm and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
