Construction works are underway to build two new ramps from the West Gate Freeway to Hyde Street Yarraville that will connect trucks directly to local industry, getting them off local roads and providing another freeway entry and exit point for drivers.
If you’ve driven along the West Gate Freeway recently, you may have noticed the significant construction works achieved in the past few months, with all the concrete supports to build the exit ramp from the West Gate Freeway now complete.
The new Hyde Street ramps are one of the many benefits of the West Gate Tunnel Project as these ramps, along with the new tunnels, will help take 9,000 trucks a day off local roads and link them directly to local industry.
Attached to the new Hyde Street ramps, a new elevated walking and cycling path is being built that will extend the Federation Trail through to Hyde Street.
Going over Williamstown Road and running alongside the new Hyde Street exit ramp, the separated bridge structure will connect to the ground level at the Hyde Street Reserve north of Hall Street and link in to Spotswood Train Station.
This new connection is part of the 14 kilometres of new and upgraded walking and cycling infrastructure the West Gate Tunnel Project is building to provide locals more options to move around the community.
The project is also turning vacant industrial land into new open space adding to the Hyde Street Reserve and revitalising the green space surrounding Hyde Street and creek embankments.
The West Gate Tunnel Project thanks motorists for their continued patience as works continue in upgrading the West Gate Freeway, with crews widening the freeway from eight to 12 through lanes and installing more than nine kilometres of new and improved noise walls.
