    YOUTH SPACE AT YCC

    Date:

Youth Space at Yarraville Community Centre has been developed by their Youth Leaders to support 12 – 17 year olds in our local community.

YCC Youth Leaders have created a safe space at the Neighbourhood House in Blackwood St that aims to build friendships, focus on mental health and support young people to connect with and support each other.

This is achieved through Saturday night events that focus on healthy gaming, life skills and workshopping issues important to this age group. This program relies on volunteers and the Youth Leaders to raise funds through BBQ’s and trivia nights to support the cost of these events.

It’s been an amazing effort by their volunteers and Youth Leaders and a big shout out to Yarraville Rotary who have supported the program and generously contributed the games console. A quote from a participant’s parent:

“My son has recently attended a couple of the Smash Bros nights with YCC and he absolutely loves them. The gaming is really appealing to him and the free pizza is a hit too!! From a parent’s perspective, it is a great growth opportunity for the kids, enabling them to have some independence in a fun, controlled and safe environment whilst allowing them to make new friends. We are looking forward to the next Smash Bro night!”

Future events include Mario Kart tournaments, hair colour nights, Smash Bro’s, basketball and cooking nights.
